Welcome ...
Learning should be fun and keep all students engaged in the process. There are many ways to do that, but one of the easiest is to incorporate technology into your lessons. You don't have to have all the answers to get started - you can use your students as resources to help you. Become a learner in your own classroom - right along side your students.
Your students are living in a digital world. They are accustomed to using the web as a means of getting and sharing information - frequently without guidance as to how to be productive in the process. As teachers, we have the opportunity to meet them where they are, and help them grow into productive, sophisticated, and scrupulous cyber citizens.
Technology is not the whole answer and will never take the place of great teaching, but it adds a familiar dimension for your students and allows them to put these incredible tools to work in productive ways that will benefit them now and well into the future.
About Me
I have a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's in French from Ohio University. I taught high school French at Western High School in Pike County for 11 years, and then I worked developing and delivering technology integration workshops for one of Ohio's Ed Tech Agencies for more than 10 years. I am currently working for one of Ohio's 23 Information Technology Centers (ITCs), South Central Ohio Computer Association (SCOCA). These days my attention is focused on interactive video conferencing, supporting a consortium of Blackboard users and providing professional development for teachers in more than 11 counties in southern Ohio. To see more of what's going on in SCOCALand, check out my Curriculum Integration Blog.
I am very passionate about education and technology. I'm a Mac enthusiast, but I can also use a Windows PC. I grew up and continue to live in Appalachia - wouldn't have it any other way. I have lots of hobbies - photography, needlework, hiking, reading, web development and more - so much to do and so little time! My children are grown and we have two beautiful grand children - one boy and one girl. Life is good...
